MPP’s Bruce Mirken and California Assemblyman Tom Ammiano discuss how taxation and regulation of California’s marijuana industry could help alleviate the state’s budget problems. Ammiano’s bill, AB390, would treat marijuana like alcohol. 07/12/2009

The opinions expressed below by our viewers and posters do not necessarily represent the opinions of the Marijuana Policy Project. These views are those of the individual authors alone. MPP does not condone or support the illegal use of marijuana. We do encourage open and frank discussion, but if a comment has been posted that is in some way significantly inappropriate, please e-mail us at socialnetwork@mpp.org to report it. Thank you, and we're looking forward to what you think!

Yes, ABC plays their part very well, huh?
“Radical” and its being introduced in, where else, “San Fransico” (the BogeyMan capital of the USA).
Nice job Bruce, even in light of the fact that the segment was obviously biased against it. More exposure!

Mr. Bruce Mirken,
Your not getting a lot of comments here because the comments link is covered behind the video window.
Good job as usual, just keeping the heat on is job #1 to keep people thinking in the right direction. The focus should be on users of marijuana and NOT opponents whenever possible. Everytime we see marijuana advocates on TV, there’s always some idiot to represent opponents. It’s an easy debate but the fruits of our labors will manifest itself over time.
We Appreciate you more than you’ll ever know!

“A recent poll says 56% (majority) of Californians favor legal marijuana. There is no word on whether the legislature is smoking what they are”
I thought the people were supposed to be running this country…? Since when was the Preamble changed to “We the politicians”?

These exercises to come up with as many lame puns as they can, by the prohibitionists, are sad. I’ve seen better creative writing from high school students.
I guess Walter Conkite wasn’t on ABC.
Like others, I find it offensive the journalist sounds more like an editorialist.
A dispensary owner, “Some people they abuse it, and they’re going to ruin it for people who really need it.” “It shouldn’t be like a martini at the end of the day.”
That’s abuse?!
They obviously have the guy behind the counter cowed. Do you think he would be upset to see his business increase a few thousand percent?! Duh!
I give ABC an F!

Yeah this was a poor job by ABC. Very condescending and wink-wink. I’ve seen a general improvement over the last 6 months or so in how our media discusses marijuana — often featuring Rob, Bruce, and other MPP folks of course. The general tone of discussion has gone beyond “look what the little stoners have baked up now”, and has finally started to lend respect and legitimacy to the cause.
This sounded like a Reefer Madness diatribe by comparison. Check yo’ self before you wreck yo’ self, ABC.

HAHA that guy almost at the end whos working in a medical marijuana dispensery don’t want it legalized because if everybody could grow their own plants they would never go to his store and buy!
Fun to see that it is in progress with legalizing here in Sweden where our politicians are really really stupid and dumb it won’t be legal for the next 20 years I think
