Rob Kampia, executive director of MPP, is interviewed by Glenn Beck about the California bill introduced by Assemblyman Tom Ammiano to tax and regulate marijuana like alcohol.

The opinions expressed below by our viewers and posters do not necessarily represent the opinions of the Marijuana Policy Project. These views are those of the individual authors alone. MPP does not condone or support the illegal use of marijuana. We do encourage open and frank discussion, but if a comment has been posted that is in some way significantly inappropriate, please e-mail us at socialnetwork@mpp.org to report it. Thank you, and we're looking forward to what you think!

Great job Rob-Glenn was trying to turn the interview into a joke and you remained intelligent and composed on the issue. Thank-you and may more individuals become enlightened by the day.

  2. Tom

Obviously, he tried to make a joke out of this interview however he only made himself look silly and uninformed. He talked about how liberal he is and made himself sound “pro-choice” and then turned around and belittled the millions of productive Americans that work and pay taxes, care for their families, and chose to use cannibis responsibly. He produced no facts, had nothing intelligent to say, and halfway through the interview he looked awkward and slightly embarassed. Glen was not there to gain a further understanding of the situation in California, and he was not there to provide a window into this newsworthy event for his viewers. He wanted us to see his moral superiority and it was satisfying to see him flounder.

  3. Joel

Oh wow- Can Glenn be any more condescending or dismissive? I don’t believe he is a libertarian like he says he is, if so, this interview would have gone way differently.

    Great work Rob!!!

  4. stevo

Glenn Beck is smug, condescending, and WRONG! Even one arrest for pot is too many. The argument needs to be turned around: Instead of “Why should we legalize pot?” it should be “Why prohibit pot?” The first reason most prohibitionists give is that it is dangerous. Actually, it isn’t. But even if it was, that logic implies everything as dangerous or more dangerous than pot should also be illegal. How about riding in a car? Beck implies that anyone who smokes pot should be disqualified from health care coverage. After all, they willfully engaged in potentially risky behavior, right? By that logic no one should be covered because most human behavior is more “potentially risky” than smoking pot. For instance, the air in my city is carcinogenic to breathe. Ironically, my pot smoke isn’t.
Beck stated two glaring misconceptions. 1) He said pot tears up your lungs. Got any evidence? 2) He said its normal to see people smokng pot next to a cop in NY? Go ahead and try it, Glen. What if the cop is having a bad day?
Also, this pisses me off! Glen Beck obviously has a great career and probably has plenty of money. Yet he admits having smoked pot in the past. He would not be in the comfortable postion he’s in if he had been arrested that time he smoked and earned himself a nice criminal record that would follow him around and adversely affect his ability to get a good job. Yet he doesn’t mind if others suffer the fate he narrowly escaped. He should be working for minimum wage like the many who are being held back professionally for a personal choice that hurts no one. Thats the policy HE supports. And he calls himself a Libertarian?

  5. Excellent job Rob!! You were constantly baited, but answered all questions forthrightly, honestly and in America’s best interests.

  6. Nick

    good job Rob!=)

  7. Eric

How does this guy have his own show?

  8. Rob kampia is nothing less than a hero for medical marijuana patients. Stay the course, “I smell victory!”

    TENNESSEANS FOR MEDICAL MARIJUANA

  9. Kevin

OMG- Glen Beck sounds like the most ill-informed narrow minded person I have heard in a while….

Rob – You did good… Next time you get someone like Beck take control of the interview. See how many ways you can bunk the myths of why marijuana being dangerous, roll models.. (Phelps and his DUI Kellogs ignored), addiction rates and then hit them with the fact that it can help in this economy…. Hit him hard and fast like that and he will still be scratching his ass as he mentions that he did inhale….

  10. Chris Anderson

For someone, anyone intelligent at least, to claim to be a libertarian and in the same breathe say that he thinks we should still have laws on our books to limit any product that harms only the person taking it, is absurd. I, personally think Glenn is a blowhard, with little to say that resonates with me, and this further pushes that point home.

I’m a libertarian, and I’m embarassed that Glenn could sit there on TV and call himself one. He’s nothing but a typical right-wing, let me legislate my morality on your body, republican. Probably a fundementalist something or other, who believes you should believe like he does.

And by the way, he’s an addict. Must have an addictive personality, and yes, for someone with an addictive personality, maybe marijuana isn’t a good thing. Glad he at least had the common sense to get that far in his life.

  11. Rob ~ AS usual you held your own. I love that you pointed out the marijuana certainly doesn’t cause death.

I have never seen Glen Beck before, but I guarantee I will NEVER watch him again. This guy comes off to me as silly and condescending.

  12. Mark

Geln Beck: Picture of a hypocritical imbecile.

  13. Mark

Actually, Rob, you could have done better.

You need to smack these imbeciles upside the head with a pitch that goes something like this: “WAKE THE FUCK UP YOU MORONS!!! HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN BITCHING ABOUT A CURE FOR CANCER AND HERE IT IS RIGH IN YOUR OWN BACK YARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

STOP THE INSANITY!!!!! STOP THE BULLSHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LEGALISE POT TODAY, WORLD ECONOMIC PROBLEMS WILL BE HISTORY!!!!

  14. Nate

Glenn Beck is ridiculous. The legalization arguments are very strong, that’s why dummies like Glenn resort to anecdotal observation and dismissive jokes about cookies. The stigma against the marijuana lobby is so frustrating. “Do you smoke marijuana?”. What an ass.

  15. John Lasota

What do you expect? He works for the FOX ;-)

  16. Bradson

Mr. Beck was brilliant in demonstrating the superficiality and idiocy of the usual prohibitionist arguements. Mr. Kampia’s calm, informed, common sense responses were such a sharp contrast to Mr. Beck’s inanity that I don’t see how any viewer could come away from this thinking Mr. Beck is anything but an idiot. His stupidity degrades his profession, whatever that is.

  17. Bob

There is fine line between the conduct and free exercise of religion, as the courts do not reconize the conduct “or the use” of the herb cannabis it is still my free religious exercise to Believe the use of the herb cannabis is ok as it says in Genisis 1 29 And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat. For Glenn Beck to make a mockery out of my religious beliefs on public t.v is one of the most discriminatory acts I have seen in a long time. Fox news should be sued for letting such a discriminative person such as Glen Beck conduct this interview, they should be held accountable for these discriminative actions against the Christian community. Just because something is illegal it should not give a person the right to discriminate.

  18. gary

great job rob u tore him a new one he looked more the sterotypical stoner u were raitonal educated and informed

  19. will

This is a joke!!!!!!!! How glen beck put catoon crap on the screen when trying to talk about something shows you how narrowminded he is. It reminded me of the simpsons episode when they had an interview and the news guy kept putting horns on the one person and other stuff. Glen Beck just showed the world his true colors and his ignorance. He (beck) says he a recovering alcholic? I think he’s just a closet drinker and don’t have a clue!!!!!!

  20. will

Ps What does health care have to do with marijuana bill anyway they didn’t introduce them together. It another conservative lye like the mighty bush clan.

  21. Joe Ferreira V

Thank you Mr. Kampia, i’m really happy that was on Tv especially around 500 here i think. I guarantee you made some of even his viewers change their minds or at least start think and questioning what their gettin drilled into their heads day after day. That… and makin him look like a fool, although not hard you did a hell of a job at that too. By staying very professional and on the relevant points. I’m really glad we’re starting to see more and more debates on Tv, this next decade is going to be a monumental time for marijuana law reform, especially medicinal the truth is finally makin its way out there( it was only a matter of time ) 70+ years i guess but we’ll see now. I try to debate and get the info out there every day, i figure if i can start to turn around my grandparents especially on medicinal, who are in their 80’s, stubborn, conservatives and are like talkin to a wall when you mention the word marijuana, then anyone else is easy. Also easy when you have the truth on your side.

  22. Joe Ferreira V

Well…. Just like the last 12 years have been great too. I’m definently not forgetting that just sayin in the next 10 – 20 years hopefully were gonna be seeing a new congress and a lot of changes, people just cant play dumb anymore, let’s just keep on pushin the info out there were people can see it and make there own decisions, thank you again for doing that. A man can dream! and when we act on those dreams thats the only time anything ever truly gets done.

  23. Carl

Rob, good job! Glenn, great job too if you were trying to come off as a condescending a–hole!

  24. Jeff

Who the hell is Glenn Beck and why do we care about him or his failed attempt to play the “Joe McNasty” show from the 60’s. Great Job Rob on holding your composure and acting professional while speaking intelligently as opposed to Beck’s verbal vomit.

  25. Shaun

my god, Glen Beck cannot for the love of him stay on-topic or make a logical arguement. Just a bunch of “dur hur weed are stupid” statements and then laughing at himself. And he thinks /we’re/ high….

  26. Well done Rob. On message as usual. Glenn Beck is a major toolbox.

  27. SRV

Glenn Beck is like ALL other Republican/Neo-Cons, out of touch with reality….

  28. I think working at that news channel is bad for the brain cells. I am a libertarian and agree with the MPP position on this.

Willing to bring up the other debate anytime. Still waiting for the libertarian society though.

To be consistent, alcohol and tobacco users should not get the medical care coverage either.

I’d go for that, but that is not going to happen any time soon. California needs the money. It is legal for medical use. Obama promised to not send his boys after the clinics. Might as well legalize it.

One libertarian step at a time. Taxes are a different issue. Fed programs are a different issue. That news guy does have 2 brain cells.

  29. PHIL

THIS WAS TERRIFIC!! THANK YOU ROB. THERE ARE NOT MANY PROPLE THAT ARE SPEARHEADING THE DECRIMINALIZATION OR LEGALIZATION QUITE LIKE YOU. GLEN IS, AND ALWAYS BE A CONDESCENDING PRICK. MY FATHER DIED FROM COLON CANCER AND WOULD NOT CONSUME IT DUE ONLY IN PART THAT IT WAS NOT LEGAL. REGARDLESS OF THE FACT THAT IT WOULD HAVE HELPED WITH HIS APPETITE. NOR DID ANYONE SAY ANYTHING ABOUT WHEN INDIANA GREW (HEMP/JEWT) FOR THE WAR EFFORT IN THE LATE 30″S EARLY 40″S FOR ROPE FOR THE WAR EFFORT. OH, THATS RIGHT,,,,,,ONLY THE GOV’T GAINED FROM THAT.

  30. Nice Job Rob!
    Thanks!!
    Keep fighting the good fight!!!

“Could they tell God that it is not legal?” – Bob Marley

  31. John

so would Glen then deny healthcare to anyone who smokes cigarettes, drinks alcohol, or eats fatty foods? Rob, you owned that tool, could he have looked ANY more silly? I dont know whats more sad, how misinformed he is, or the fact that he is perfectly happy in his ignorance.

  32. Malcolm

Mr. Beck might have done well by himself to smoke a little more and tipple a little less. Had he done so, we likely would not have seen such a glaring example of his “brain on smug and stupid.”

Time to jettison the obscene delusions of Harry Anslinger and J.Edgar Hoover, et.al., and reap the benefits of this good herb fully.

Bravo, Rob, for showing him, with your composure and intelligent and rational responses, for the sorely limited asshole that he is.

  33. Marc

Beck is full of crap. He says ” I did it, stupid stupid thing.” He maybe did it once but anyone who has done it for a prolonged period will tell you it is safe and should be legalized. Even people like me who used to smoke marijuana on a regular basis and have since quit due to laws will till tell you that it should be legal. Glenn Beck is a fool, as are most of the people that swear that it should be kept illegal. I just don’t understand why they are fighting so hard against something they know nothing about.

  34. 420

Some things with Glen never change, idiot same as he was before.

  35. Rich

My God…I never watched Glenn Beck before this and now I understand why. Like some obnoxious child with terrible hack jokes. That guy needs a drink.

  36. Krishen

This was embarrassing to watch. I think you handled yourself so well.
Why is it ok for chemicals from labs to be taxed and regulated? They even come with a laundry list of side effects and interactions.. Wow. How embarrassing. Do you think the idiot watched the playback and felt silly?

  37. Always irritating to hear people like Beck and Maher claim the label “libertarian” when they really don’t grok the whole notion .

  38. Well done. I am proud to be an MPP member and Rob is doing an excellent job representing me.
    Paul

  39. Hargraves

    Mr. Beck,

Your style is both abrasive and insulting, you did nothing to engage a real dialog with the representative from MPP and did not even consider the issues and point of view of your guest. Several serious issues had been handed you and all you did was make fun and light of the needs of medical patients, recreational users and people who would benefit from the hundreds of uses that cannabis offers from better more sustainable paper products to medicines, extracts, ointments and elixirs that are used to treat or aid in the treatment of a variety of health related problems. We then have the issue of taxation and revenue generation, prohibition and incarceration. All of these very important issues presented and you covered none of it in your slick ass style and lack of journalistic curiosity and integrity.

Now I know why people don’t look for real depth from Fox broadcasting and your show in particular, what a waste of a paycheck and airtime!

20/20 and 60 minuets your not! Thanks for perpetuating stereotypes and making fun of the issues. You need to keep that up so people don’t confuse your show with real journalism.

    Respectfully and disappointedly

    Mr. Hargraves

  40. Glenn Beck is a total whack job~ Can we make him illegal instead?

  41. Lisa

IT WILL HELP THE ECONOMY PEOPLE!!! THAT NEWS CASTER ACTED SO IMMATURE!!! Maraijuana is not a hush hush thing any more. I believe it has many benifits.from soap to medicne . People need to step out of the dark……….

  42. I was ashamed for Beck, he was so uncomfortable and uninformed.
It seems most of Fox newscasters are the same.

  43. Tina

Fox news and their puppetheads only make themselves look very stupid.
Excellent job Rob. Keeping your composure and stating facts is the only way to appear rational, unlike Beck who comes off like a boob.

  44. Jen

Glenn Beck is a horrible interview. He seemed VERY uninformed and compared smoking pot to being an alcoholic…? Really? This guy has his own show? Only on FOX, I suppose.

  45. John Webster

Glen Beck is right about one thing. He only has 2 brain cells.

  46. Unfortunately, both Glenn and Rob are out of touch with scientific reality. Many of our biochemical thermostats are inappropriately set for the world we live in today. Excessive inflammatory immune and other biochemical responses are behind aging and age-related illnesses (cognitive dysfunction, auto immune diseases, cardiovascular disease and cancer’s). For example, peer-reviewed scientific publications suggests that THC appears to reverse atherosclerosis, prevent Alzheimer’s disease, and kill numerous cancers. Essentially, marijuana is an antiaging drug. To use Glenn’s healthcare argument with actual scientific facts, we should only give health care to people who use marijuana.

  47. Jeanette Mobbley

I think Tom did a good job on the video. As being part of having a Medical Cannibus Prescription I as a patient do undersand why Calif. would want to tax it. And being from Calif. I think that we should tax it. I’d rather see it not go to waste as people will grow it anyway. Why spend the money to raid it? California needs the money to fix the budget how else are we going to get it? Surely not from taxes. As we are in war. So I would say go for it make it legal. And it’s an extra income source. So why not? I don’t see anything wrong with it.

  48. John

Glenn made one very valid point, i really do believe he has TWO brain cels,
and lets see, we have a president, and a 14 gold medal olympic champion (dont forget to boycott kelloggs) who have achieved MONUMENTAL successes…I guess its time to put that whole “slacker toker” notion to bed.
btw, my state (NJ) passed a bill to legalize medical marijuana a few days ago, and looks well poised to become our 14th legal med. mj state, the scales they are-a-tippin… Im gonna get to work on a pin-up piece of art tentatively titled “sweet Mary Jane” to donate to MPP to take to the Playboy mansion auction in June. excellent job Rob!

  49. Rob did a great job, every norml person knows that. Im glad we have a educated guy on our side instead of someone like Glen Beck, He’s exactly whats wrong with america. People will soon know. Check out our movement on myspace or operationlegalize.spreadshirt.com and check out our new shirts. Support the movement! It will happen soon guys. Thanks
    Op:Legalize

  50. Dino

Remember Mr. beck said he had only a few brain cells that were still working. He said he was a recovering alcoholic. Research has shown no one has ever died from Marijuana. Research shows as I write, someone just died from alcohol. Open mindedness is not available for ignorant people.
It’s as shame that Mr. beck says he speaks for or to the American people like he was Ben Franklin or Thomas Jefferson. I realize he speaks from a TV media that was/is against America’s new President Obama. It’s easier to understand why there are so many thick headed one way minds in America. I saw the ridicule and facial expression as Mr. Beck was trying to make a mockery of the truth. This is a great reminder of our precious freedom of speech. With that said, American folks with open minds will prevail.
    Dino

  51. jojhn

Glenn is a self-proclaimed Libertarian discussing the morality of using cannabis. Just another Fox blow hard supporting law enforcement of their own morality.

  52. Awesome job Rob!!!!!! It’s amazing how brainwashed the main stream media is. Sometimes I wonder if they are just robots, because they don’t seem to be able to have any ability to reason, think logically or have an opinion that makes any king of rational sense. Why does America keep watching CNN & FOX or any other TV news outlet for that matter???

Thank you so much for continuing the pursuit to get the government out of our personal lives. There has NEVER been a documented death from an “overdose” on smoking or eating Cannibas. How many people die each year from DUI accidents caused by Alcohol?

How many people die of lung cancer from cigarette smoking? HUNDRED’s of thousands of people every year and the government keeps on regulating and collecting taxes. Why? Go hunt for the TRUTH it will shock you if you allow yourself to investigate with an open mind.

How many times has alcohol or cigarettes been used to help treat ANY kind of illness?

So far, researches have proposed that CANNIBAS could treat
    Alzheimer’s disease,
    Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis,
    diabetes mellitus,
    dystonia,
    fibromyalgia,
    gastrointestinal disorders,
    gliomas,
    hepatitis C,
    hypertension,
    incontinence,
    osteoporosis,
    pruritis,
    rheumatoid arthritis
    sleep apnea,
    and Tourette’s syndrome

So tell me AMERICA, TELL ME government, TELL ME Obama why are people being put in Jail and developing CRIMINAL records for using something that 12 states (which you should think of as 12 different countries, they’re individual GDP’s are larger than many countries) DOCTORS PRESCRIBE it to their patients who see ongoing HEALTH BENEFITS that are documentable and reproducible????

Please keep supporting MPP and write your local representatives to propose similar legislation your home state, the time is NOW!!

  53. Hey Folks, Beck is not stupid, although he comes off that way. I think it’s important for us, and Rob in particular to watch that interview and look at what Beck was trying to do. Yes, he failed miserably to draw Rob into a happy-go-lucky comical commentator, reduce his credibility and make a farse out of the whole issue. That was a very smart move on Becks part, but it failed. Absent plan B, he went down in flames. (you were just a tad bit stiff Rob, but given the network, I can understand that) Good Job. Hopefully some watching FOX for news-tainment got an education.

  54. Nick

This guy Glenn Beck is an idiot. Leave the comedy to Stephen Colbert, please. Way to go Rob, though! Getting some good word out there.

  55. Wow that was great. Did anyone ever think about it before?
It was once legal now no way to tax it so it became ill legal.
Then they found a way to tax liquor and then it became legal again. Talk about a country that is still learning? Others are doing very well from it why shouldn’t the US?

  56. taratree

The way to take a really big bite of crime, is to legalize ALL so-called “recreational” drugs across the board–I mean every one of them. The tax money currently used up by the DEA, the Judicial, and all of Public Safety Departments (police), not to mention the jail/prison system can go toward drug couseling, rehab, eduction, etc. LET US NOT FORGET that where there is demand, there is supply –legal or not. Illegalizing drugs of these types has never stopped their use, importation, or production–it simply makes for a huge black market. Let us call for the legalization of ALL recreational drugs NOW! The fact is, most recreational drugs are basically low cost or no-cost to produce (e.g.marijuana is a weed remember)..it’s only the risk factor makes them expensive. Let us grow up as a nation, first releasing all the drug incarcerated non-criminals—and then by put that money saved on incarceration toward educating people as to the effects (both good and bad) of ALL drugs, legal or not. If more people agree with this idea, and share this conversation with their neighbors and friends, hopefully it will happen sooner than later.

  57. Wonderful job, Ron. Truly. Glen Beck was exhibiting the national schizophrenia about cannabis. A combination of embarrassment and moralistic posturing. But, as usual, you were able to keep the conversation focused and to the point.

Plus: Great news – Eric Holder says that it is no longer American policy for the DEA to raid cannabis dispensaries.

Can we believe the tide is finally turning? I say YES!

  58. Read this, and then tell me why the country shouldn’t legalize, and tax.

  59. Ron McGill

Brilliant work!!! That Fox douche had his ass clearly handed to him. I think you may have even put a box on it first. Great work.

  60. Brooks Vandergraf

Wow! Could Glenn Beck be anymore mocking and obnoxious?! Congratulations Rob , on staying professional and composed.
    Glenn was such a dick!

  61. I must say Glen Beck is Not So Bright. He so wanted to ask a question and before Rob could answer he would cut him off with some smartass comments. I am a firm believer in “Man made Whiskey, God made Pot, Who do You Trust?” In this Country we say “In God We Trust” How do you argue with Gen. 1;29, I give you all seed bearing Herbs, I must say I sure had to pick those pesky lil’ seeds out most times when I was rolling a Fattie.

I also wanna add Rob did hold his own and did not let Beck get to him. One day we will see a change in the Marijuana laws, I just hope it’s in my life time.

  62. JackGrabit

Glenn Beck said during the interview that he himself has only two brain cells left working in his head due to his abuse of alcohol, and whatever. That is one point of Glenn Beck’s that I will emphatically agree with.

Glenn Beck is an idiot and it appears Glenn’s voice is the loudest voice pointing it out.

  63. Glen Beck kept trying to whip up reefer madness.
He tried to say that Rob was in favor of legalizing
drugs when rob was advocating legalizing marijuana.
Glen was trying to destroy Rob Kampia’s credibility.
Rob did a good job combating Glen and sticking to
the issue. Glen Beck is not a friend of the legalizing
of marijuana movement. Glen Beck is a corporate
media stooge. Plain and simple. Truth is truth.

  64. Michael Wells

I don’t watch TV at all any more and Glen Beck’s performance here is a perfect example of why I don’t. Smug, condescending, using the show as a means to further ingrain long established falsehoods and unthinking attitudes — rather than encouraging either dialogue or fresh ideas — is what “talk TV” shows like this are all about. They are far more dangerous to the body politic — not to mention the individual mind — than occasional, responsible marijuana use. Their function is to inhibit genuine social dialogue, not encourage it. Rob did an exemplary job of remaining calm and projecting a demeanor that is focused, on-topic and informed. Three thumbs up.

  65. Glenn,
You said that after you smoked marijuana, you were an idiot. This is plainly true, from watching this “interview”. But it is also dishonest – a lie of omission, because you were clearly an idiot long BEFORE you smoked pot. In fact, I’d venture to say that you were born an idiot, and you appear to have finely chiseled that innate idiocy into an art form. Did you really think smoking pot was going to make you smarter? Just because extremely intelligent people like Carl Sagan or Physics Nobel Prize winner Richard Feynman smoked pot, doesn’t mean that a blithering idiot like Glenn Beck is going to become smart just by smoking it.
And Glenn, if you don’t belong in prison for your “youthful indiscretions”, then why do our children?

  66. Don

This brings the count to… The majority of America: 46,377 – Fox News: -420

Way to score the interview on FOX…Right where they truth needs to be told. Great interview and way to make Glen look like an uninformed idiot who was trying to avoid the real issues and just try to poke fun at stoners.

  67. Don

  68. I applaud your ability to answer him intelligently after watching his performance. Glenn Beck is such an as*hol* for not really reporting the news. but, then again, that’s Fox network! Anyone that can not see the benefits of legalization of Marijuana is a ’sheeple’, moving through life without a thought in their head that is their own., put there through choice!

We could have one rule that everyone follow, Self-Responsibility. You can do what ever you desire to YOURSELF, not hurting others in the process. If every one would just be concerned about what they do, and allow all others the same liberty, we would be fine. Don’t ya think?

    oh oh, it’s a bit past 4:20.

Keep up the good work Rob. I am for it 100%.

  69. jeff D

You couldn’t have performed any better in this interview. You kept you polite and responsible touch while responding to his belittling questions in an informed way. I also love the way you leveled him with your speeding comeback and you can tell he is aware he lost his point. Great job Rob!

  70. John Guilbert

    Rob,
    Great job on the interview.
Glen Beck has proven himself to be a tool! It was obvious by the constant interuptions while Rob was speaking that Glen did not take the interview seriously, and that Glen was not there for an open and honest discussion.

    JG

  71. bruce gorczycki

Good Luck California , but with NO BRAINERS LIKE GLENN BECK telling the idiots who watch and believe these talking heads, it’s going to be one HELL of a struggle ! And Rob, congratulations on your ability to maintain your composure while dealing with that idiot ! Of course all your experience in Washington has probably gone a long way towards building that particular ability !

  72. Bob

Great job rob..Best I’ve seen of the few who are speaking out for repealing the prohibition. Beck admitted to smoking MJ and admitted he was an alcoholic. The comment about only having 2 brain cells left was funny. I don’t agree it was linked to his MJ use but to the fact he drank like a fish.. Alcohol has been proven to cause more problems than MJ….Brain damage being one…..

  73. Crille

Glenn Beck is a numbnut moron. He’s on FOX now, doesn’t that give you a good idea of his credibility and sincerity. Clown TV for dumb people.

He obviously doesn’t know ANYTHING on the subject of marijuana and its economical and health effects and benefits. He just likes to hear his own dumb self talk.

Good job, Rob – I know it must be frustrating talking to Glenn Bozo.

  74. Viola

Thanks so much for staying composed and socking it to that ass! Whoever he is anyway? What a fool he looked like, that wasn’t journalism thats for sure. And yeah, I guess if youre an addictive person, youd misuse anything. Goes to show about the intelligence of the arguments against if someone must stoop to that level.

  75. Joseph A. Mungai

Glenn Beck finally admitted he only has 2 brain cells—I wonder if that made his boss proud?

  76. Kannon

How are people like Beck allowed to have shows to themselves?

  77. Linda

I’m amazed that Glenn Beck admitted that he only a two brain cells working; we always knew that, but it’s probably not because he smoked pot.

  78. Cody

Rob you destroyed Glenn Beck on this debate on the show, on every point you made Glenn Beck look like the dumbass he is

  79. Great Job Rob,

I’m impressed that you could hold your composure in the face of the fear-mongering Fox “news” establishment. Further, it’s sad that Glenn Beck is no where near the title of “Most Clueless Fox Correspondent”. At any rate, keep up the great work and with luck, we can turn an invasion of rights and personal liberty into a productive element of the economy and society.

Thanks Rob, You did a great job. That guy seemed such a jackass but you didn’t stoop to his level–you rose above and it came off quite strong. I’m embarrassed that my folks watch Fox News, but I hope maybe they saw that last night. It’s hard to imagine that anyone, no matter how strong their prejudices against marijuana, could watch that interview and not think twice.

  81. Daniel

Great composure with Glenn who seem to abruptly end the interview when Rob made a great point that if Pot is bad for you, it is more cause to regulate it as they have done with alcohol tobacco and firearms for years!

  82. dolly kinard

Glenn Beck sounded as dumb as I would expect from him. Beck is only trying to please the old school crowd. Pot has saved my life, the disease I had I could not eat except for pot.
Go smoke a joint Beck, you’ll feel better.

  83. Dan Byrnes

    Yes, bravo, Rob!

As usual you have once again proven yourself to be a graceful advocate and exemplary supporter of the marijuana legalization initiative. I’m not surprised in the least that Glen Beck, one of Fox’s neo-con blow-hards, would make such a complete and utter fool of himself in front of a national audience. This interview is another prime example of why Fox should be banned from broadcasting. Feeding Americans this twisted paranoid ‘reefer madness’ propaganda is highly immoral and should be illegal. It is only logical and practical to legalize marijuana. The tax revenues alone could eventually help eliminate our national debt.

  84. The ALLSTAR

How much more clear can anyone be about the benefits of legalizing and how it will only increase saftey and generate revenue that is going untaxed already.. seriously? How else do you spell it out to the establishment? it will pass soon.. keep defending our rights to cultivate and partake in the most sacred herb on the planet! !@#@@#!$#!@!!!

  85. Hank Hawkins

Saturday Night Live did a skit like this many years ago, I believe with Dan Akroyd. The marijuana representative remained matter of fact and focused while the anti-pot guy was a total lunatic. This interview is a microcosm of today’s media. They put down anything to do with the herb but use the lingo of the culture trying to appear hip.

I wish he would have mentioned how many people in America use marijuana regularly and unfortunately illegally. Ending the prohibition takes the pressure off the user and eliminates drug dealers and makes more law enforcement funds available to fight drugs that really can kill you.

  86. You did a great job hon,, you are a hero for the MMJ efforts, and I applaud you, and happy to have you as my friend. We love our Oregon Medical Marijuana Program here, as cannabis has helped me deal on a daily basis for years. It’s a wonderful medicine.

  87. virginia. Tierce

I agree with this interview. I have sucidal depression and pot is the only thing that helps this. It also helps people of Glaucoma and Fibromyalgia. There has never been a problem with violent behavior unless it is mixed with alcohol or other drugs that lead people to violent behavior. Good job Rob. I suggest people read up on why pot and not alcohol was prohibited in the 30’s and 40’s it is because it conflicted with the ability to sell cotton. Hemp lasts almost forever

  88. Julie

Man that Glen Beck guy is really an idiot, a very immature, uninformed idiot! Any person can look at a small amount to a large amount of data that would inform them of what marijuana is and is not and Glen Beck had it all wrong. Why does this guy have a show?? Great job to Rob Kampia and even though Rob did a great job Glen made it easy by being a fool! Just wish that Glen would have taken less time of being an idiot to then give more time for real information and answers to get in! Here’s to hoping the bill passes and the rest of the country wakes up to, for this and Hemp!

  89. I wish these folks would drop the word pot,,, that’s so old, like me,,,, but to me it is cannabis and the medicine of choice for me. If I have to spend the rest of my life, which isn’t that long in chronic pain, and I am in my own house, then I will vape the rest of these days.

  90. Brian

First off – good job Rob !

Second – Beck realizes that pot is a medicine for people with cancer; and yet he does not ’support’ the use of it legally for cancer.

He says he smoked it; along with using booze; and everything else; and yet; somehow he survived that- and he knows… it was not the pot that causes him to go to AA meetings.

I think that Beck; as an ardent Mormon; does not want to associate his religious beliefs with the idea of legalizing pot.

To make up for that conflict in his mind – he made the joke and interview as big a joke as he could. He wanted to say its time for it to be legal- for medicinal purposes – but he really is not in a position to do it.

So; he acted goofy and dislocated; and made fun of it.

This idea of legalizing marijuana did not come up with the money problems in California; the idea of legalizing pot was there when it was made illegal: without doctors wanting it illegal.

The silly thing is that indeed now; after decades of trying to get pot legalized and talking about how economically it could save the day for this country – Beck could say the current financial situation is the reason this all comes to light.

Rob looked cool and together; Beck with his giddiness and props of cookies and cakes – looked the fool.

Tip of the hat to you Rob !!

  91. fred hood

It upsets me greatly when I see someone like you making light of our struggle. All of the lives being destroyed over this prohibition. It was against our rights to begin with Americans should have freedom of choice. I am 60 retired a Vietnam Vet (volunteered) I first tried weed in 1972 it helps me with social anxiety, depression and just elevates my mood a little. I am tired of living under the tyranny we have today in this country. Corporations mainly the legal drug pushers are the ones that lobby and pay our lawmakers to keep cannabis illegal because it is said it could (doctor quote) replace up to 80% of their products. They pay millions every year to keep it illegal and deny us of a choice except going on the street. The organization Drug Free America is funded by the legal drug companies to reinforce the fact that cannabis is illegal, and that is the way they want it. With almost 40 years of experience of casual use of cannabis I personally feel it is a much better choice that the other LEGAL drugs out there. That is all we want a freedom of choice our founders gave us, we want it back. So as you sit and make light of the oppression one American is jailed every thirty seconds for making a personal choice. End the madness end the war on US (drugs)..If it were your non-violent son or daughter being thrown in jail with psychos to be raped and killed perhaps it would put a more serious slant on your comments!!!!

  92. Miss Anne

wow. that glenn beck guy is a douche bag.

  93. jason dufey

just smoke the lord loves the herb y cany we

  94. Doug Dye

Glenn Beck…I’ve got cookies…I have 2 brain cells…at least you admit that!

  95. Michael

LOL Glenn Beck is a tool, but pretty funny interview on the whole.

  96. I think this is such a night and day wash between two individuals who basically justify legalizing ‘the pot’
I cannot believe how high strung and redundant Mr. Beck was. What an absolute fool.
Yes, tax pot and quickly rebuild our economy, afterall why not? It’s only CALIFORNIA. It has no bearing whatsoever on the United States ecomony, oh wait, yes, yes indeed it does.

    Caketits Approves

  97. Wow, citizens great consensus–Grimm Beck doth share a brain with Rash Limpo so I do see that our friend Rob probably only used a small part of his cortex to outwit that halfwit. I congratulate you sir for staying the course and defeating the Bleccchh myth/monster on his/it’s own show; a resounding peal for our Liberty Bell that must grow louder through the echoing of our combined message—our appeal to repeal antiquated, archaic cannabis laws. As a true Libertarian; oft-nominated but never a ‘Washingtonian’ office winner who had a grand time (fun-run) trying for enough votes, I am also dismayed that anyone could actually believe that a political party (spelled Libertarian) that totally is founded on [and proactively for] OUR Constitution and our Bill Of Rights would accept sycophantic “W” supporters such as Bleckk has never read the Jeffersonian Papers nor any of Ron Paul’s literate lines.

  98. rob kampia was great…why is glen beck such a jerk….maybe someone should tell him…the point of the bill isn’t to bail out the state, it’s to legalize the marijuana and regulate it…i guess amminio decided it was kinda dumb to make all the medi patients go to jail for something that helps them…i DO realize there are some schmucks out there that will abuse this but then they also abuse alcohol, have accidents and probably steal from their grandmothers…

  99. Jeff schifler

The way I see it glen beck is an uneducated libertarian, what about our freedom choice? and before hosting a talk show you should be some what educated on the subject. Rob needs to speak up things he could have defended he said nothing try not smoking before a show rob you may be able to think quicker.

  100. erica valentine

Boy is Glenn Beck a condensending asshole or what. You kick his ass Rob, way to go. How did a dick head like Glenn Beck get a show in the first place. and I ll tell you he aint no libertarian thats for sure!

  101. ken

sounds like a great idea….but legal in california and up to a year in jail for posession in florida sigh…

  102. greta

I’m glad I got to see Rob Kampia do such a calm, logical, informative job of explaining the absolute logic and benefit of legalizing marijuana.(Great Job, Rob!) I hope no one else of interest to me goes on Mr. Beck’s show. I had never heard of him before and I’d prefer to never endure his rude arrogant dismissive self indulgence again, But perhaps those of us who share Rob’s viewpoint should thank Mr. Beck. Perhaps he helped Mr. Kampia and his opinions appear even more astute in comparison by making such an ass out of himself.

  103. Daiel

Great job Rob. This newscast reminds me of a scene from a very informative movie called Totally Baked (http://www.hulu.com/watch/22384/totally-baked) in which the news reporters bull crap their show and demean marijuana until the activist character gives up and leaves. After the broadcast the newscasters light up.

  104. Harold Archibald

Great Job. The movement appears to be growing like a snowball rolling down the mountain. This interview was handled magnificently and I am proud of my past support and look forward to more financial support for MPP.

  105. mason

Rob you are the man. but glenn… ha, you were pathetic. good job making a fool of yourself.

also, California, you are my HERO!!!!

  106. Legalization

Rob Kampia did a really good job. Glenn tried to treat this like a joke, and Rob just straight up told the facts.

    Legalize it!

  107. Patti

    Rob, you rocked the house!

With mentalities like that of Beck is primarily why marijuana is treated as Public Enemy #1
    or
like its all a Cheech and Chong (with all due respect) joke. That was evident with all his little cartoon avitars running across the bottom of the screen and his comments concerning desserts. The truths are coming out now and their message is outdated. There is a changing of the guards-a new era of enlightenment! That is painful for folks like Glenn Beck.

Beck, since you tried marijuana and “everything else” as you stated, you are an expert, right?? Wow, its obvious you don’t get it! You are the joke. Guess soon we will see who all is laughing!

Rob, you are our hero. I am proud of you. Strong work!
    God bless you.

millions = billions (much needed CA tax dollars)

P.S. EVERYONE remember to email Sac in support of A.B. 390! You can find the link on this website under states/california/

  108. Richard

GLEN ur the idiot, u were such a child interviewing Rob Kampia.
The conversation is about legalizing and at every turn u were just like a teenager, I think u should grow up.
Whether or not u like it or not we have won!

  109. Richard

ANN Richards was said, ” POOR GEORGE, HE CAN’T HELP IT, HE WAS BORN WITH A SLIVER FOOT IN HIS MOUTH” like wise, “Glen Beck can’t help it, he was born with a twinky shoved up his ###.

  110. James

    Nice one Rob!

  111. This guy is a real stick huh? Great job & great composure congratulations with great exposure! I got your back Rob!

  112. Richard Kefalos

What an asshole, that Glenn Beck, a smug rightwing idiot trying to be cute with his stupid body language, twitching and carrying on about how he inhaled. I never watch that idiot.

Good job, Rob. You must have wanted to punch Glenn Beck in his shiny, fat face. I know I did.

  113. tony

You guys know what? I still don’t have cable so I probably don’t know who this Glenn Beck fella is. But after watching this clip I thought to myself that he was on drugs. His arguments didn’t make any sense and it sounded like he was a sober drunk? He was kinda wobbling also. He started off playing smerking at Rob, but ended up not even making a clear point about anything. Why do people even watch his show?

  114. Ok you guys, the link to email our CA assemblymen through mpp.org is:

    https://ssl.capwiz.com/mpp/state/main/?state=CA&view=myofficials
    (then insert your zip code)

  115. Brian

Hi Rob, great showing on the interview!

I thought you had very well-informed discourse and presented some thought-provoking facts & statistics for viewers tuning in to that (seemingly god-awful) TV show, whatever it is. Who is that guy?! I have been away from television for too long now, I didn’t realize that his behavior was acceptable.

Anyway, just wanted to chime in and say good job. Who knows how things will progress in California, but all in all things are moving in the right direction (economically, morally, logically). Good on you for being a solid part of the push for real change! Don’t let uncompassionate (***) like this guy even phase you for a second.

  116. Jim

    Nice Job Rob. Enough said.

  117. Jim

    Nice Job Rob, enough said.

  118. Rob

I have just watched the clip from the Glenn Beck Show..I am not an American and cannot understand why you would want your views represented by somebody like Glenn Beck, he mentioned only having two brain cells…well I personally would like proof of that as he appears to have a vacuum between his ears! This is a serious subject with serious effects, the FACTS about marihuana have been detailed over centuries it is a theraputic drug that was included on a list of prohibited drugs because the incumbent president at the time did not know how it should be classified and made marihuana illegal AGAINST THE ADVICE of 360,000 american doctors!! Does there never come a time when you look at the FACTS and say “ooops my bad this needs reviewing”. I don’t know who you are Rob Kampia but the world always needs warriors against stupidity…GO ROB!!!!

  119. Glen Beck appears very uncomfortable in his role of Fox News personality where his responsibility is to portray a certain worldview, yet his personal feelings seemed to be at odds with that business need.

In dealing with, or presenting to ideologues, it is vital to use their own terminology: in this case it would be better to describe decriminalization in terms of “eliminating big government”, and “fighting crime”, “increasing the security of the homeland”, and other neo-con buzzwords to which Beck and Fox viewers are well conditioned.

  120. Gail

It’s confirmed: Anderson Cooper is a favorite and now I totally understand why I never watch Glenn Beck! He can’t really be thinking what he’s saying!!??. (I think, at least during this interview, the Serpent within was mostly controlling him.)

  121. Gail

I had to watch the video again because I never heard of this Rob guy. And now that I have, I must say: Rob, good job. You’re pretty good at representing the truth about marijuana. Thank You. And all the while, doing this while an obnoxious human being is coming at you with Fire in his gut! I’d'a lost it.

But knowing what I know about marijuana, and it’s so ironic, but no one could have remained calm during that drilling except a person on marijuana!!!

  122. DancesWithFascists

Nice job Rob! The one thing I would have added is what my doctor told me: marijuana smokes have less lung cancer than NONSMOKERS, so it is protective and good for you. Rat studies have recently shown the same thing, rats given pot (not sure whether they inhaled or ate it) after deliberately being infected with cancer had smaller and fewer tumors than the control group that got no pot.

    Beck is such a douchebag!

  123. DancesWithFascists

correction: ‘marijuana smokers’, not ‘marijuana smokes’

  124. dave

Actually, I think Glen Beck could have been much worse. He actually let Rob get his argument out. He did nothing do stifle it. Marijuana smoking was bad for him because he associates it with his alcoholism from his past. He was a wreck. Alcohol took a far worse toll on him than did marijuana. Nice job Rob!

  125. Keith

Good Job Mr. Kampia. I’d have to say Glenn Beck is an ass. It was a one sided intelligent interview, but other than that very good.

  126. steve

    Glen B. u r a jerk! Obviously u don’t have a clue about the facts…….
I used pot for over 32yrs. and my dr’s. PRAISE my CLEAR lungs. My lab/tox screens come back as EXCELLENT/OUTSTANDING! Very clear here that Rob K. acted waaaay more mature about the issue than u. QUIT SCRUTINIZING those of us who cannibis use really, really helps. I have intertrochantric hardware w/4 screws thru thigh bone, bursitus, and full blown d.j.d. from scull to hips, legs. Get ur FACTs straight b4 u open ur big mouth!…….steve

  127. Pamela

Good job Rob!! Glen is a real jerk who is very uninformed. If he were to look at the facts and all of the scientific studies that have been done on marijuana, he would clearly see that it is harmless. The only thing harmful about marijuana is that it is illegal!!! How stupid he made himself look…we are proud of you Rob for doing such a great job!!

  128. Janis

COME ON GLEN=it is not bad-it has not kill me. I do not drink or smoke .cigerates= drinking kills and I had family and friends pass with drinking or lung cancer-but no one has died of smoking pot. It is good for cancer people.
My brother had colon cancwe-he had never smoke pot until than. It help through his chemo-he did not get get sick.

  129. Aloha Good start,
but why not shoot down the gateway drug question?
    B

  130. Adam

I’ld be willing to bet the only thing Glenn Beck inhaled was second hand smoke. And I hope he didn’t think he was winning any kind of debate, He couldn’t even hide the fact that he had absolutely no clue what he was talking about. And I love how he just lumped pot in with everything else when he said legalize DRUGS. Isn’t that how they love to present it? Mention marijuana along side heroine to stir up some fear in the rest of the viewers who’ve no more a clue than the guy who claims to be such a liberal.

  131. Ryan Langiewicz

Anyone can put it very simply and say that when the alcohol prohibition was going on noone stopped drinking they just found new ways to do it, so then the government said hey there going to do it anyway so hey why not tax it and make some money on it and just try to control it better, now there are more alcohol related deaths in a day than there are marijuana deaths in a century easily, there are more people dying from the withdrawl of alcohol and then lets not even get into ciggarettes I mean people are dying from second hand smoking and there is not even one death that is a direct result of using marijuana on record as for as I know and if you know of one please tell me. Marijuana does more good for most people than it does bad for them. And if you really think about completely legalizing marijuana and taxing it, that could turn or whole economy around or at least take a big chunk out of it from taxes, it would free up prison space also it would allow law enforcement to put the people that are worried about arresting people for pot and put them on the crimes that really matter that they cant seem to stop like I live in Philadelphia and in the last 13 or 14 months we have had 7 cops killed in the line of duty, we have all these guns on the streets and violence and the trafficing of real drugs that are killing people and the cops cant seem to do anything about that cause there out trying to arrest people for a half ounce of marijuana or even a pound I would rather let them go and arrest the people that are shooting each other. The system is ridicolous, so it would free up cops and task forces so that they can start working the real problems, and the money that they spend to do that can be used for something more serious, the crime rate would drop, the jobs that it would generate like people that grow it, package it , market it, ship it, sell it, control it, all the side businesses that would go along with it, instead of spending 14 billion dollars a year on enforcing the stupid laws you could make triple that just from the taxes, even the taxes that are payed from the employees checks. Then all the jobs that it would create there are just so many different things that would benifit from the legalization and taxation of marijuana that its sad that it hasent happened yet but it will whether the government likes it or not its going to happen in time lets just hope its sooner than later. All of these politicians that are against this need to open there eyes and really take a look at this cause any person that has even a little intelligence can see that this is the smart and logical thing to do and all these close-minded people need to open there eyes or get a new job cause there obviously in the wrong career that you cant see this is the smart thing to do! OPEN YOUR EYES U.S. GOVERNMENT AND LEGALIZE MARIJUANA AND START TAXING IT OR STEP DOWN FROM YOUR POLITICAL POSITION AND LET SOMEONE THATS A LITTLE SMARTER SHOW YOU HOW TO DO YOUR JOB!!!

    Ryan Langiewicz

  132. Slang

How does this guy have his own show? What a condescending ass. Trying to make a joke out of this issue, he only makes a joke out of himself. Augh!

Great job Rob. Your composure and rationality surely showed him up.

  133. Dennis Massingill

A government that arrest people for smoking a God given herb and making it illegal to treat any disease with anything natural, allowing only man made chemicals so thay can patient for profit reguardless of side effects. including death: SUCKS. This is no longer home of the free. We have allowed these dictators to poison us with chemicals, put radioactive toxic waste in our water {for our teeth}. Modify foods to cause cancer GMO’s and fill our air with every immaginable pollutent. WE NEED TO TAKE BACK OUR RIGHTS AND GET RID OF THESE GREEDY POLITICANS before they kill us all. Osama bin Laden is a VERY large shareholder of FOX. Glenn is one of his puppets.

  134. Andrew Bairnsfather

Rob, good job under fire. Glenn Beck is remarkably immature.

Just because not every cop arrests every marijuana user s/he sees is no reason to keep these failed and illegal laws on the books.

Beck, for someone who admits to having only two brain cells left, ironically seems to claim M.D. Ph.D. knowledge of who should or shouldn’t be allowed to have it, and why.

I don’t know Beck very well, but I bet he’s probably someone who is so upset with the govt. that he spends most of his time bashing it, so it’s ironic he spouts so much of the spoon-fed govt. propaganda.

  135. wally420

Any resemblance between Glen Beck and a human being is purely coincidental.

  136. Dina"Hussein"Bayardo

Glen Beck is an idiot and you did a superb job of trying to put out the facts. But i believe you would help the cause more if you went on a show like Olberman’s, Matthews’or Maddow’s or any other talkshow where you’ll be treated with respect and the seriousness that this issue deserves. Thnx for all you do.
    Peace-out, GhanjaWoman, in AZ

  137. Gail

Ryan said it all !!!!!!!! Good job RYAN ! ! !

Someone should copy his article/column and email it out to the world, and then make many, many hard copies and mail them all out, or just to all the people who can make changes and their friends, relatives and associates.

maybe people just need the facts… Wouldn’t that be nice.

  138. Great job Rob! This Glenn Beck is clearly an idiot and was doing everything his tiny brain could come up with to derail the interview and make a joke out of your fine work and you were great at holding your own. It strikes me as odd that some people think this is a “news” or issues program. Hopefully, you will be getting invited to answer questions on more serious and credible venues in the near future. More power to you. (BTW – you don’t have to answer the “do you smoke pot” question – you should respond to that kind of provocation with the response “This interview isn’t about me, it’s about a serious public issue with much at stake for many.” then get in a good sound bite or two before he can ask another question.)

  139. Jason M.

I’m not understanding all the Glenn Beck hate here. Unless I’m mistaken, he acknowledged marijuana prohibition has been a failure, acknowledged that we need a different approach, said in his opinion you can be as high as you want to and thats A-OK with him as long as he doesn’t have to subsidize the habit, and topped things off with saying he thought medical marijuana was just fine too.

Sounds like he’s more pro-marijuana reform than Obama, or for that matter any recent president in American history going all the way back to Carter. And considering he is on a network with one of the more conservative audiences there is (and this is the group you need to convince in order to get some serious changes made to laws) – why on earth would you all hate Glenn Beck so much? A lot of people out there listen to Glenn Beck, and if he’s willing to say “Yeah, its a failure, we need a new approach” think how many people would listen?

You people should be praising him for something like this and reaching out to him, not flaming him on an internet forum. Wow.

  140. Jim

I used to love talk radio, and Glen Beck would have at least a couple of hours of my day every weekday.
I thought he had a clue. I didn’t realize that he was such a moron on the subject of hemp decriminalization.
Yes, taxing and selling Pot for recreational use is a smart thing. But what about the hundreds of uses for hemp?
From paper to fuel, and everything in between, plus it’s natural, and won’t clog up our environment like nylon and all those byproducts of oil.
We’ve been lied to for so long, the amount of intelligent people who turn a deaf ear to information that really makes sense about exploitation of hemp, is shameful.
Like showing someone the wheel, or fire, and they turn away, because for so long, it was believed to be of the devil.
And BTW, was Elvis Presley’s music really of the devil? What about the Beatles? How about KISS, (kids in satans service).
The answer is NO! We were ignorant and it was a seemingly simpler time. We are still ignorant, but at least there are some of us that can compare old and new, and weigh it out, rather than just, “dancin with the one who brung us), simply because it’s familiar.
Glen, for whom I once had much respect; Did you not know that the American government, prior to pot prohibition, paid farmers to grow hemp?
Did you not know that probably the main reason that it was ever made against the law, was to squash hemp production, and exploit nylon and plastics?
Or did you really believe that the movie “Reefer Madness”, was a true and accurate documentary on marijuana?
It’s unfortunate that Glen has an addictive gene or genes, and had a rough time with alcohol and some illegal drugs.
Many people have that gene, and I want them to get help, and be healthy.
But if ignorant people like Glen Beck, keep spitting out their biased, ignorant, opinions and what they THINK, rather than checking the actual studies, and there are thousands of true and unbiased studies and documentaries.
The problem is we’ve been lied to for so long, and really the masses haven’t figured that out yet. And most of the lies we’ve been fed, were all about greed.
Just for someone to make more money, or to keep that undesirable individual or group from making money.
Please realize, the spirit of America is and will always be great. We are at a delicate time now, and are really just now uncovering many of the lies and deceptions we’ve taken for “gospel”.
I’m a baby boomer, brought up in an age where the voice on the radio or TV, was the truth. The problem is, and was, that it wasn’t.
The American spirit cares about mankind, and makes an effort to make things right that we’ve been doing wrong for so long, just because we’ve been doing them for so long.
Sadly, the American government, as a whole DOES NOT!
We’re in a place where you must pay to be healthy. That is wrong. Being healthy should be a right not a privilege. No I’m not a socialists, but health has become a cash cow for everyone involved, except the sick.
We plant ideas like seeds in our TV/radio, newspaper/magazine ads. The drug companies have figured out that if we believe we have some of the symptoms for a disease, then we are very close to contracting this condition. It’s all about faith or belief.
Have you ever wondered how so many religions and branches of religions can flourish today?
They can’t all be right…Can they?
I’m not here discussing religion, but what keeps them all so strong is FAITH. Belief. They believe there for they receive and experience. All of them, not just yours. Faith/belief, is huge, make no mistake. The federal government knows this.
A very strong phenomenon, but being used against us in our quest to be healthy, strong, educated, and FREE!
Glen Beck, I am embarrassed that you are so ignorant on this subject.
And by the way, there is no one out there that is not doing illegal drugs that wants to do them.
Just like smoking marijuana has never taken any ones life. That in itself is testimonial enough. Just count the millions that die each year from cigarette, or alcohol related illnesses.
Let’s see, “One doesn’t have near the negative affects as the others, and the other two are proven killers”.
We just keep the killers in our culture because they’ve been part of our culture for so long. They are excepted.
Guess what? Alcohol and Cigarettes ARE of the devil. And yes my tongue is in my cheek.
Read a book Glen Beck, but make sure it’s one that someone has read before, so you’ll know how you feel about it….Man, and I used to be such a fan……Knucklehead!

  141. Mark

Beck is one of many phony libertarians, claiming to be one when he’s really just another conservative. His main point seems to be that he agrees that marijuana should be taxed and regulated, but he OBJECTS to having that discussion within the context of a severe budget crisis? That’s utterly moronic, and tossing his hands in the air while he speaks in a sing-song voice to mock the premise doesn’t change the fact that his complaint is simply stupid.

Would he argue that being in the midst of a national economic crisis is not the time to consider reducing spending and cutting unnecessary expenditures while also looking at new means of increasing revenue? Because that’s really what he’s saying — and even more, he’s arguing against focusing on a particular group of government expenditures and programs that restrict personal liberty, and changes that would put it into the free market while increasing business revenue and government revenue.

Cut wasteful spending, reduce government, increase personal liberty, increase business receipts — those are things that real libertarians would SUPPORT, and Beck’s obnoxious and unintelligent objections only serve to demonstrate that he is nowhere NEAR being a real libertarian.

  142. Mark

Oh, and I just LOVED how Beck tried to claim that his own past drug use has left him with only two operating brain cells, one telling him to keep breathing and the other one not knowing what to do.

Really, Glen? Really? You do realize you’re sitting in a national TV news outlet studio, filming your own personal talk-show, right? As in, you’re famous and rich. So despite all those drugs you did — and what really messed up your life, by the way, were the alcohol and hard drugs, not marijuana — despite all of those things, you STILL got rich and famous, Glen.

So pointing at yourself as an example doesn’t exactly make your point. And to the extent that drugs and alcohol did mess up your own life, guess what Glen? Not everyone is as weak, or as selfish, or as screwed up as you were. The fact that this or that thing ruined YOUR life for a time in the past, doesn’t actually make you an expert on telling everyone else what they should or shouldn’t do. It wasn’t the drugs, Glen, it was your own inability to use them RESPONSIBLY that caused your problems. And not everyone who drinks turns into a raging drunk. You did.

So your expertise is limited to exactly ONE person and how drugs and drinking impacted your own life, period. But for all that it did do to you, you don’t have cancer, you aren’t dying of lung damage, you aren’t suffering a heart attack. Every single objection you raised about the supposed dangers of marijuana are dramatically contradicted by the ONE example you kept citing — yourself. Way to not make a single valid or intelligent point, Glen.

  143. laura petersen

Glenn says he has 2 brain cells left….i doubt he has more than one.
His gene pool should be spliced.

Thank you for keeping the medical marijuana hope alive. You kept your cool & stayed focus on the issue.

  144. Jerry P.

Glenn ? You better go back to the bottle. Obama should legalize marijuana
take the black market money out of it, put it into the system.

Deep down inside you need a drink, go back to the bottle and give up television !

  145. Tom

    Jason M.

Please don’t patronize us. It’s the equivalent of standing next to us, patting us on the shoulder, telling us how you agree with us, all the while winking at your friends and rolling your eyes. Did you see the cartoon characters? If you can’t see the sarcasm and sneering coming from Glen then I feel sorry for you. I thank Glen for showing the public how full of acrimony a member of the liberal press can be when he holds himself in such high and mighty esteem. I do not thank him for supporting our cause. Anything that came from him, that could be construed as support, was lost in his mockery. That being said, I don’t “hate” Glenn Beck. However, I am angry at him and Fox for the unprofessional manner in which he conducted this interview.

  146. big D

What was that bit about speed Rob. Caught me off guard with that one. That comment aside, I thought that interview was handled in a righteous way. I reckon that was a bit of a challenge to reroute such foolish comments into a direct statement about whats really going on. cheers

  147. Ellen

Glenn Beck NEEDS to eat a brownie. What a dork! He was SO obviously uninformed, he looked like an idiot. I honestly don’t even believe the “alcoholic” label he pins on himself. I think he’s using that as a “boo hoo, I was a drunk and look how great I am now!” bunch of crap. That snotty little sneer on his face makes me want to slap him!

  148. Esteban

Glenn Beck is a bias moron! He lies and states marijuana is dangerous, yet after hearing the amount of deaths from Tobacco and Alcohol, and none from marijuana. He continues with the statement that it harms your lungs, not true! Marijuana is an expectorant, it slows the process of cancer and also inhibits tumor growth. He does not take this interview serious and would rather the pot be in the hands of drug dealers that will sell to your children. Where if taxed and regulated, the money not be going to drug dealers, it would be a huge break for the tax payers who do not use marijuana. California alone would generate 14 billion dollars alone, and that is with the people who already use. So is that 14 billion going into the hands of drug dealers now? If it were taxed and regulated throughout the nation it would generate close to $50 billion, not million, billion dollars serving as a gigantic catalyst for the economy. Also it would allow police to focus on real crime, like assault, rape, murder, and free up more resources to focus on reducing violence which is steadily on the rise. Before prohibition over 50% of medicine had Cannabis in it, there are Cannabanoid Receptors in your brain. Queen Victoria used it in Tea form for Cramps, it also helps with glaucoma, HIV/AIDS, depression, anxiety, bi-polar disorder along with other manic disorders. Prohibition doesn’t work! It was founded by a Racist(Harry J. Anslinger) and was made illegal because of his racially motivated lies to congress, and he was opposed by Dr. William C. Woodward of the American medical association, who at one point called Anslinger a liar and stated that prohibition would disallow the further use of medicinal marijuana. Doctors go to medical school, not politicians! Doctors should be the ones making medical decisions, as they have spent God knows how many years in medical school studying medicine. Another lie is that marijuana kills brain cells, this has been proven not to be true. Also, it is not the gateway drug, test have debunked that theory over and over. God didn’t make marijuana illegal, a racist man did(Harry J. Anslinger) google it yourself. Before it was illegal, Elly-Lilly, Squib-Meyer, and other pharm. companies used Cannabis.

  149. michael bauch

like Glenn Beck said himself, he did everything in the book. He is another great example of the destructiv powers of booze. Like G. W. Bush he just overdid it. That what wiped out his brain. Just the right condition to get his show on FOX
Rob is a very good spokesmen for the movement

  150. Steve

Glenn should relize that all the drinking he did is the cuase of his one brain cell telling him to breath. He is a dummy, he shouldve had just one more drink so the rest of us. If that were the case the rest of us wouldnt have to put up with his assinine comments.

  151. Glenn,
I really hate to make this association, but I think it is called for early in this interview. In “ghettos” drugs have often been turned to as one of very few options to seek the “American Dream”. America now has a fiscal position similar to downtown welfare-land, central U.S. It is not at all suprising then, that the people are driven to make this consideration with clearity. Economies in Drug-Ridden Neighborhoods would be far worse if they weren’t Drug-Driven.

Drugs have always been a financial choice on the business end. Look at Pharmeceuticals. In more than a few cases, it has been mandated by doctors and insurance, and yes, Law, that an individual MUST take a given drug at directed intervals. Who are the pushers in this country? This is a financial discussion, clouded by irrational emotional judgements of what others would do if they were given the choice. I think that many sober folk are just scared to be allowed to get high because they might actually like it. Why tempt yourself? I understand that.

Nature can’t be patented. This is a problem for Big-Pharm because patents mean profits. If anybody can make the same thing, profits drop. This issue was raised when marijuana prohabition began, and now it is time to reconsider. Big-Pharm has created its very own addicts in more affluent neighborhoods, with insurance to keep it all going. The competition model has changed. Drug companies don’t “need” other drugs to be illegal anymore. The fear will keep most on track. With them out of this argument, or at least minimized, the fiscal arguements are strong. This leaves the emotional and judgemental arguments of how legalization is the same as condoning use. Idealogical diferences being mandated by the “right” people seems bad to me. If this was how laws are made, then Budists would be criminal too. Strictly because of believing diferently from what has been determined to be the only “right” perspective. These are subjective arguments. Nobody is saying that anybody should get high, but that the choice should be yours, Glenn, and theirs, the people of the united states.

  152. ryan

intelligent guy huh? i think i heard “come on lets get to the point” at least 5 times in 6 mins. can this douche bag form a sentence with out saying “im a libertarian” . well lets get to the point, i would rather see America getting some money than the dealer. im pretty sure taking the drugs away from the dealer would get some crime off the streets dont ya think? why would this news guy open his bit saying “the guys who made these obviously haven’t smoked before” as if he was condoning it their for a second. this guy needs to get his arguments straight before fox lest him back on the air. why would u open your show like that then attempt to turn it into a joke? was this guy hi during the show? he just admitted to being a drunk. not very professional.
ty for sticking up for us rob and sorry that this guy couldn’t be more professional in his career.
our brain makes natural thc, so i dont think adding to it would hurt any. I’ve never heard of anyone killing brain cells from drinking water.

  153. Gary Robinson

Glenn great you wher trying you best to tern this into a joke, but the facts speak for them selves Marijuana isn’t the drug poeple like you try to say it is, MARIJUANA IS THE ONLY DRUG THAT IS NONE TOXIC !! Tobacco, Alcohol, Meth, Opium, and Medical Drugs are all TOXIC, and yet we still criminalize Marijuana users. Now I’m not saying that doing drugs is the right choice, but thats just it this is America, we sould have the right to choose if we want to smoke marijuana. Plus it would creat millions of new jobs, witch in tern would help and boost the economy. I believe that we should legalize marijuana in the states as soon as posible and i ask that anyone who has read this will take the time to look in to this subject and post your comment back to me are this comment bored. Please marijuana is not the drug so many pleople like Glenn Beck make it out to be.

  154. Carlos

Well done Rob! It is difficult to speak to people when they lapse into their comfort zone of closed-minded rhetoric, but you demonstrated your true and
dedicated pursuit to campaign against the out-dated legal system on any stage or in any forum. Keep up the good fight!

  155. Alex

Glenn Beck is a FAKE libertarian. I’m one, and if it was me doing the interview, i’d have supported the bill all the way!

Like NaS said: “Watch what you watchin, FOX keeps feedin us toxins/stop sleepin and start thinkin outside of the box, and unplug from the matrix doctrine, watch what you say big brother is watchin/

  156. Sergio

What a fucking dope! But in any case, so is anybody who watches Glenn Beck. You can’t take the guy seriously because he doesn’t even take himself seriously. He only shows his own opinion and criticizes everyone who doesn’t share it. Not just on weed but anything you can name.

  157. Dean

Good going Glen ! You smoked herb and now you are all “better” . . hummm . . seems it did NOT affect your brain that much because you have your own talk show and seem just fine . . same with Michael Savage . .all these former “potheads” that are successful . . badmouthing pot . . if it is THAT awful why aren’t these in treatment or “burn-outs” ? HUmmmm . . . they should have the guts to say it is UP TO THE INDIVIDUAL WHAT THEY CHOOSE TO PUT INTO THEIR OWN BODY ! NOT for minors obviously ! These people in the media have no guts they HAVE to tow the line or their sponsorship will run for cover like what happened with Michael Phelps . . humm . .he maybe the greatest swimmer of ALL time with the most medals ever won in the Olympics and he is a reefer smoker . . such a “BAD ADDICTIVE DRUG” that ruins lives . .yea . .except these guys . . get REAL !

  158. JRW

It’s such a shame that GLen Beck tried to make himself the face of the Libertarian Party. The interview he conducted makes it seem like everything he ever learned about marijuana came from movies and parodies. Not only is marijuana the number one cash crop in California, but legalizing it and controlling it would instantly put $3 billion dollars into the state’s coffers by not having to investigate, incarcerate, prosecute, defend, and pursue non-violent drug offenders. And it might just turn the tide in the violent massacres which are taking place south of California’s border since the state can clearly grow its own and would no longer have a need for Mexican imports.

  159. Great job Rob, it’s hard talking to people who are clueless…

What would you do to save your child’s life?
Okay Mr. news man, New flash.. Marijuana has and is being used by the government in pill form, man made Marinol. God created Cannabis man freak out because he’s unable to control it and has been clueless ever since…

  161. mrandmrskindbud

Nice job Rob. There are many adults who have no business consuming cannabis. I believe Glenn Beck to be one of them.

  162. Rob, Great work! I normally am a fan of Glenn beck but he showed a lot of ignorance in that interview. Glad you kept your composure and upheld a good image for all us hard working tokers out here! Keep up the amazing work!

Cheers from Denton, TX. We’re behind you guys the entire way!

P.s. Expect some donation money coming from us very soon!!

  163. Joel M

Watch the very last sentence many times. Notice GB’s reaction after Rob asks why someone that thinks pot is dangerous wouldn’t want it regulated.

For a half second, GB shakes his head as if he’s stunned and stares blankly into the camera for a split second before he remembers he’s a douche.

plus GB agreed with everything Rob said.

  164. Troy Algood

I was shocked to find that Glenn Beck isn’t wrong about everything. He said he himself only had 2 brain cells rattling around that head of his, and you know what . . . he’s right!

    Nice job Rob!

“All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent.” – Thomas Jefferson

  165. Eric

Wow, Glen Beck came off as a total idiot in that interview. Does he really think he’s doing his cause any good when the opposing side shows up with data and all he has to conter them is speculation and gut feeling?

  166. Stacy

Glenn Beck is a complete idiot!! It hurt my brain cells watching that Fox news clip!! Thank goodness Rob Kampia has the decency and intelligence to take his stupidity with a smile. Decriminilization is the best thing the US Government can do for this country and Mr. Kampia needs to be interviewed by more respectable, intellegent interviewers. Someone on his level and the level of the thinking portion of America for example. Thank you Rob Kampia and the MPP for their hard work. Legaize, tax, regulate, and share the wealth with America. It IS good for you if used properly and the medical research has proven so. Keep up the fight, we can see reform!

  167. HOLLI

OMG. THAT WHOLE THING WAS UNBELIEVABLE! I DONT KNOW WHAT THAT GUYS PROBLEM IS BUT YOU DID A GREAT JOB AND IM SO PROUD OF U FOR STANDING UP LIKE THAT FOR ALL OF US IN SUCH A CALM PROFESSIONAL MANN! THANK YOU! :) I GIVE YOU PROPS JUST FOR HAVING TO INTERVIEW WITH THAT GUY! IT PEOPLE LIKE HIM THAT MAKE SUCH A BAD NAME FOR MARIJUANA!

  168. kenny

wow, i guess if u want to have a serious conversation, dont go on fow news. I agree that we should legalize marijuana and tax it. here’s the real question; when will prohibition end???? i guess the government doesnt want the economy to get better. its a shame, isnt it?

  169. ChrisfromTN

Fox wants to grow the Republican Party, which is apparently on the ropes, considering they’re stuck debating such national issues as Rush Limbaugh. They have to try and draw libertarians back in. So suddenly Repubs are fiscal conservatives again, en masse. Suddenly Fox gives a few nods to the marijuana issue (which, curiously, are difficult, if not impossible to find on the Fox and Glenn Beck websites, yet are plentiful on YouTube.)

Glenn Beck is not a Libertarian. He just isn’t. I know he wants to be, but he’s sucking from the Fox teet, now.

Obama has addressed a major States’ Rights issue that Bush, a so-called conservative, tried to crush like a grape. If the Republicans don’t get on the right side of this issue, then its smooth sailing for Obama (barring financial collapse or some similar event.) He won’t even have to modify his policy; he’ll just have to maintain it. Haven’t some democrats already alluded to the potential of looking at this issue NEXT term? Politics suck.

Great Job, Rob. Beck was sniffing something.

  170. qn

Well done Rob. It’s takes a lot of composure to restrain yourself with a Murdoch sycophant. Maybe MPP could create a media outlet where Rob, Bruce, Dan or a qualified MPP representative could be the interviewer and invite serious people on to debate. I think that would create a valuable public space that is thoughtful and reasonable. Let’s put marijuana agenda on the offense in media and see what happens.

  171. Benjamin

It’s sad to see this. Rob, I congratulate you on your efforts. The attitude that Glenn Beck was projecting in that interview is that of everyone else who doesn’t see the facts of lifting marijuana prohibition. I myself have fallen victim to this countries ridiculous marijuana laws. I was arrested for possessing a bag of marijuana. I was not walking down the street smoking, I wasn’t even under the influence. Now I am faced with paying $15 a drug test for one year which is twice a week. 24 Drug treatment classes at $20 a class because I have a marijuana “addiction” or so they call it. This “diagnosis” did not come from a licensed or properly educated drug counselor or drug therapist. This is based on the levels of THC that was present in my first week of drug testing.
And furthermore I think Glenn needs to stop being such a comedian and actually listen to the facts.

  172. Steve W.

Who seems more like the goofy dopey pot head in this interview? Keep up the good work Rob, it seems as long as the US has such strict anti pot laws Canda will be pressured to follow suit.

  173. Guano

This isn’t the first time Fox has laughed in the face of Marijuana users. FOX is one of the most narrow minded news company’s out there.

I hate how fox interrupts any good argument thrown there way. They do not like confrontation. Plus it is so immature of them to add those cartoons on the screen, it shows not only there maturity level, but there seriousness toward anything “different”.

If anything at least legalize it for medical and textile use in the United States.

  174. Stephanie Martin

Very good Rob! Glenn Beck acted like a clown, and you showed nothing but intelligence. Thank you for continuing to speak out on the need for reform.

  175. Bob

I don’t think this guy did a great job in the interview. He seemed a little out of it in the beginning. But Glenn Beck is such a condescending asshole. And to think he calls himself a libertarian.

  176. joseph beaver

glenn beck what a jackoff.he must be employed by the federal government.i see everyday on tv these people(dea, news anchors and etc.)who think they know all these facts about marijuana when in reality they know squat.im so fed up with this crap.i want legalization but to ALL THE OPPOSERS OF POT IF YOU WANT TO CONTINUE TO BE FREAKING STUPID AND THINK THIS POT THING IS A JOKE THEN THINK ABOUT THIS.IVE SMOKED 4 25YRS AND WILL CONTINUE TO FOR MANY YEARS TO COME.LEGAL OR ILLEGAL IF I WANT TO SMOKE POT IM GONNA.I CAN GET A HAPPY SAC IN 5MINUTES.THAT EASY.YOU GOVERNMENT PEOPLE CAN ARGUE ALL YOU WANT WHILE I SMOKE THIS JOINT.IF THE GOVERNMENT HAS CONTROL OVER POT THEN I MIGHT HAVE TO BUY AT A HIGHER PRICE.THE PRICES HAVE BEEN THE SAME 4 ABOUT 30YRS NOW.HAVING THE FEDS INVOLVED MIGHT NOT BE THE BEST SOLUTION FOR THE POT SMOKERS.LIKE I SAID LEGAL OR ILLEGAL WE WILL SMOKE IF WE CHOOSE.TO.WE SMOKERS KNOW THAT POT IS MORE THAN WHAT IT IS PERCIEVED.LOOK AT TOMMY CHONG BEEN SMOKING 4 50YEARS HES A VERY SUCCESSEFUL ACTOR.SO FEDS MAYBE YOU SHOULD TALK TO THE POTSMOKERS OF AMERICA BEFORE OPENING YOUR HOLES ON SOMETHING YOU KNOW SHIT ABOUT.

  177. david

Rob kampia got his ass kicked!!!

  178. bryan

I love when people try to use the argument “It’s bad, I did it, it’s bad.” Just another example of how our society likes to place blame on anything but themselves for the choices they make. It is not surprising to me, however, that Glen Beck cannot handle himself after enjoying some herbal refreshment. Anyone who has ever watched or listened to him knows he’s a nutcase. I feel sorry for people who CHOOSE to believe in ignorant garbage rather than being informed or at least logical. To Glen Beck….FREEDOM is an idea more powerful than any government, (even you should know that) and we WILL have our freedom.

  179. Let progress keep moving toward banning all alchohol Glen.
    Less Deaths with Marijuana.

  180. marijuana illegal! marijuana legal? why should worse substances be legal when marijuana is so criminalized? It dont make sense unless you look at when it was first illegalized, It was only made illegal due to racism and greed! Racism toward mexican people and african americans. And because it would bring in more profits from wood if hemp was never properly industrialized to the same standards as wood is. To make neccesities: toilet paper, writing paper, food, shampoos the list goes on. So why should weed be legal? i ask why is alchohol legal? thats the bigger question. So be a liberatarian and make something as BENIGN as marijuana legal. to do otherwise is the irresponsible thing to do.

brought to us by the deficit
