White House spokesperson Robert Gibbs is asked to clarify President Obama’s position on legalizing marijuana and on medical marijuana after he brought up the topic in the first Online Town Hall. Questions involving marijuana reform appeared in several categories and received far more votes than any other policy issue. 03/26/2009

Wait, People like him are in the white house? Making decisions for me?

I’ve lost faith in my Government.

And that’s a tragedy, i love America, but if more people like him are helping lead this country, i might just move to Canada.

I believe that the goverment purposefully promote people like this to be our national leaders to sustain rediculous laws and terms because people like this are largly found within the goverment and are in no way able to be negotiaded with because of the neoandrifalic similarities they condone

This man does not sound like an idiot, his just wasn’t prepared for such focus on marijuana. I think maybe the obama admin. is playiing it safe and staying in line with the current laws so not to add negative critical judgment. After the he has been in office a bit longer and everyone is comfortable with him as a leader the idea of legalizing marijuana will be considered much more seriously.

  5. The President and his advisors need to get really informed on the good marijuana can do in a medical sense and economic sense for the nation. And then make an informed decision. It seems that they believe the same old B.S. that has kept MJ illegal for all these decades and has caused so much pain and suffering for ordinary users as myself, (Fines, jail time, loss of employment, ect.). Thnx.

    Peace-out, Ghanja Woman

If we all sit here and make jokes about these people that we have to convince of our thoughts then we are fighting ourselves. I agree with Brandon in the sight that this man was taken off guard by the questions. The reporters had solid questions that no one would have been prepared to answer on the fly. With all the “umms” the guy threw out I was beginning to wonder if he was stoned.
In reality we have to work with all types of people when it comes to decriminalization or legalization. You know that old saying “You have to understand your enemy before you can defeat them”? This is a perfect example of people projecting themselves onto someone else.
As far as I am concerned you are just being hypocritical by talking smack on people who hold office.
Yes they may be uneducated, blatantly or even deceitfully wrong. It still is not proper or self respectful to throw insults at them. If you aren’t able to use your brain for positive enforcement of a just cause then sit in the back and let someone else do it. One asshole can ruin a ton of progress.
Get some act right would ya?

  7. I wasn’t an Obama supporter until the general election. After he got the nomination, being a good Democrat, I was happy to get on board and support him. Hearing him talk I was anticipating some changes for the better. I’m getting more and more disappointed by the day.

I’m first of all tired of every time the subject is brought up all you get are snide comments and jokes. Second this on tolerance attitude is what I expected from the last administration not this one. I will definitely rethink my support the next election if this kind of thing continues.

I’m an adult and know the truth about cannabis and don’t need someone telling me I can’t smoke it because they don’t know what it will do. I know what it will do and that’s all that matters!

Robert Gibbs is THE WORST White House spokesman I have ever seen in my time alive. The press is asking valid questions and this a-hole is making a joke out of the thousands of people using the herb to treat serious medical ailments. If that is not SICK then I don’t know what is. This guy might as well just have a bunch of prerecorded messages from Obama on him, a string coming out of his back, and every time the press asks a question, someone should just pull that string and listen to the prerecorded message. Shame on the U.S. Government for continuing on their path of IGNORANCE.

i would like to know what is so funny when are we going to be taken seriously until we are nothing will ever change and that’s what Obama is suppose to stand for this is not a laughing matter to a lot of people

This is a delaying tactic, Perhaps the current administration has plans for the Medicalization of Marijuana and the Protection of Patients who need help first. The Legalization of Marijuana will be the swan song of the Drug Cartels and The Government has a time table for most things, and this one is not due to happen for the current administration. Hope got Obama elected. Now he is thinking of re election and He needs a Miracle before we get one. Keep Growing your Medicine, this way we defeat terrorism!!!!

these are the morons who are trying to subvert the will of the people. congress does not represent normal people these people are not americans they are traitors to the constitution and they are doing it openly

Uh, Uh, Ha Ha Uh. We need more intellegent people in the white house. It sickens me to see how they don’t take this subject seriously. Geez we’re talking about a non-toxic remedy that could potentialy sew up a large amounts of problems the U.S is facing. Maybe we just need to keep fighting with the Mexican distributors. Why?! Our country should control it’s own, what’s our government here for?

  13. R.O.E.

Watched this again, feel the same way. Who cares what the government thinks, they work for us we want this war stopped. Stop ruining the lives of Americans.

Robert Gibbs is the press secretary. His job is to be politically correct. Obama cannot be viewed as the man who legalized marijuana. But what the administration IS doing is taking a step back. If republicans were still in office would we be seeing all of this progress? No, we’d still be dreaming of a future where we are free to use. But now that dream is in the process of becoming a reality. It’s also very interesting to see the press corps really getting riled up about the issue. David corn of Mother Jones even tried to relate it to the Mexican drug war. Don’t lose faith in Obama or the movement. Watch the progression on mpp.org a couple weeks ago we’d see Aaron or Bruce getting minute long segments on cnbc. Now we have the today show and other big names really opening their minds. That’s all.
    Keep hope alive
